The Arizona Security Officer Memorial Fund is a non-profit dedicated to assisting security officers and their families in the event of their death. Like law enforcement, private security officers die with the same criminal element. Unlike law enforcement, security officers that protect the public seldom receive recognition or attention for their heroic acts as was evident in the terrorist attack on 9/11/01, when 33 security officers lost their lives helping people to safety.
You have to look at the daily headlines to see how significant professional security officers are becoming in our lives. With traditional law enforcement agencies being affected by our economy, many companies, communities and businesses are using security officers to fill the gap. The Bureau of Labor and Statistics clearly shows over the past 15 years that the number of security officers has surpassed the number of law enforcement occupational homicides.
The Arizona Security Officer Memorial Fund was created specifically to dignify fallen security officers and to help meet the needs of their families by assisting with funeral expenses, having an honor guard at the memorial service, and presenting a state flag to the family in honor of the deceased.
